AIHA Recognizes and Expresses Thanks to the Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA
Sincere appreciation and gratitude are extended to John Henshaw for exceptional service to the occupational and environmental health and safety community
FAIRFAX, VA (December 16, 2004) — The president of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), Donna Doganiero, CIH, recently sent a letter of appreciation to John Henshaw, assistant secretary of labor for OSHA. Henshaw recently announced his resignation from the United States Department of Labor, effective December 31, 2004.
“On behalf of AIHA, I wish to extend John Henshaw our heartfelt thanks for outstanding service for the past three and one-half years,” said Doganiero. “We wish Mr. Henshaw the best in his future endeavors and are hopeful that the experience and knowledge that he has gained will be put to good use in continuing to protect workers.”
In the letter, Doganiero praised Henshaw’s comprehensive, integrated efforts to focus the agency’s relationships and resources on promoting health and safety in the workplace, engage in multifaceted approaches to addressing the most serious hazards, and maximize stakeholder involvement in priority-setting and program implementation.
Doganiero specifically cited Henshaw’s accomplishments with regard to increased professional certification of OSHA personnel, increased participation in the Voluntary Protection Programs, and the development of the OSHA Alliance program. She also thanked Henshaw for OSHA’s efforts to protect first responders following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., and to prepare for worker protection during future national emergencies.
Henshaw is a long-time member and former president of AIHA.
