The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Centers For Disease Control and Prevention and The American Industrial Hygiene Association

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) recognize the benefits of a collaborative partnership to improve occupational health and safety conditions at workplaces throughout the United States.

NIOSH and AIHA hereby form a Partnership to use their collaborative efforts and expertise to advance the protection of workers, promote best practices, and encourage employers to develop and utilize occupational health and safety management systems and effective prevention strategies and technologies.

NIOSH and AIHA will work cooperatively through the Partnership to provide outreach, communication, and professional development opportunities regarding occupational health and safety, and facilitate the transfer and implementation of effective workplace illness and injury prevention measures by:

Developing and disseminating information on worker health and safety at appropriate conferences and through print and electronic media, including the NIOSH and AIHA websites;

Participating at conferences, meetings and other key events where occupational and environmental health and safety issues are proactively addressed;

Advancing the effectiveness of occupational health and safety research; and promoting and facilitating the transfer of research results to practice in preventing occupational illnesses and injuries

Strengthening recruiting efforts for students to enter occupational and environmental health and safety graduate and undergraduate training programs

NIOSH and AIHA will designate representatives to develop a plan of action, determine procedures and identify the respective roles and responsibilities of the participants.  In addition, the Partners will meet periodically to share information, determine the status of activities and evaluate results.

Unless otherwise extended, this Partnership will continue in effect until December 31, 2006.  Either signatory may terminate the Partnership for any reason at any time, provided 30 days written notice is given. This Agreement may be modified at any time with the concurrence of both signatories.
