AIHA Supports New Method Download Feature

Download feature has been added to the IHMEN website; companies that submit method may include linkable logo

FAIRFAX, VA (November 29, 2006) — In 2005, the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s (AIHA) Sampling and Laboratory Analysis Committee began working with the AIHA Workplace Environmental Exposure Level (WEEL) Committee to identify and provide resources for compounds listed in the Workplace Environmental Exposure Level Handbook. In an exciting new development, a method download feature has been added to the Industrial Hygiene Methods Exchange Network (IHMEN) website. The Sampling and Laboratory Analysis Committee developed a system whereby companies may donate internally developed methods, which are then made available to guests visiting the AIHA website. To express their appreciation for submitted methods, AIHA is including company logos linked back to company websites. Any company interested in submitting a method to IHMEN is welcome to do so.

This method download feature adds a new level of convenience and efficiency to the process of identifying and obtaining effective monitoring methods. The downloadable feature allows the searcher to quickly evaluate whether the method is suitable for his or her needs. There is currently no charge for method downloads.

The IHMEN was created by Nick Yin, CIH, CSP, in 1984. IHMEN is an air monitoring method sharing service that was developed to share information on industrial hygiene sampling and analysis methods that are not part of the public literature. The combined IHMEN and WEEL Methods project is sponsored by the Sampling and Laboratory Analysis Committee, supported by AIHA staff, and depends on voluntary contributions of method information.

The database of methods, including the full text of several methods now available via the download feature, may be found on the IHMEN website at http://www.aiha.org/content/insideaiha/volunteer+opportunities/ihmen.htm.

For more information on IHMEN, contact Aimée O’Grady at (703) 846-0795 or aogrady@aiha.org.
