AIHA Hosts 2008 Leadership Workshop
A special workshop exclusively for AIHA local and student section presidents-elect and volunteer group secretaries
FAIRFAX, VA (March 10, 2008) — The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) held its annual Leadership Workshop, February 29–March 2, 2008, at the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church, Virginia. It was an opportunity for more than 140 AIHA local section presidents-elect and volunteer group secretaries to network, meet AIHA board members and staff, and acquire best practices to implement during their tenure. For the second year, AIHA extended an invitation to one officer from each AIHA student local section and 22 students to attend the workshop.
Jeffrey Cufaude, Idea Architects, facilitated the following discussion topics:
- AIHA’s Community: The Power of One, the Value of All
- Effective Leadership: What Produces Results
- Well-Managed Efforts: Doing the Right Things…Right
- The Future We Will Create: Getting (and Staying) in Action
“It was wonderful to interact with so many of AIHA’s leaders and it’s clear that both AIHA and the IH profession are in great hands with great leadership at all levels,” said AIHA President Donald J. Hart, PhD, CIH. “The presence of 22 student local section officers added to the enthusiasm, and the leadership training that was provided by AIHA was top notch.”
Leadership Workshop helps attendees gain the knowledge, skills, and perspectives to successfully lead at the local section, volunteer group, and national levels as well as in their professional lives. Attendees participated in breakout sessions and networking discussions to share best practices and learn about resources available to them to help them be successful volunteer leaders. They also were given the opportunity to ask board members questions about the industrial hygiene profession and the future of AIHA. Participants also visited AIHA headquarters for an open house.
