AIHA Member Donates $100,000 to the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation
FAIRFAX, VA (March 19, 2008) - The American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF) announced today that Rick and Carol Fulwiler have committed $100,000 to endow the Rick and Carol Fulwiler Scholarship. “In the spirit of giving back, Carol and I have donated $100,000 in the form of a pledge and bequest to the AIHF leading to the establishment of an endowed scholarship,” said Richard D. Fulwiler, ScD, CIH, CSHM.
AIHF is a nonprofit organization formed by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) to award scholarships to students studying industrial hygiene and related disciplines. Since 1982, AIHF has distributed more than $900,000 to 356 students at 45 schools and universities. These scholarships have enabled talented students to complete their education and have encouraged the most promising scholars to enter or remain in the industrial hygiene profession.
“There are many reasons to make a commitment to AIHF,” said Fulwiler. “For most industrial hygienists, it is summed up in a determination to advance the profession in which we have spent our lives. We understand that industrial hygienists have made significant contributions to the health and well being of the working public and their communities, and the contributions of industrial hygienists must be sustained.”
Fulwiler is president of Technology Leadership Associates in Cincinnati, Ohio. After 28 years with Procter & Gamble, he retired as director of health and safety worldwide with responsibility for occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, safety, workers’ compensation, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Fulwiler is also an adjunct professor at the College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati; course director for the Leadership and Management course at the Harvard School of Public Health; and course director for the Qualified Safety Sales Professional course.
