AIHA Announces Results of Board of Directors Election
Leadership will focus on promoting, protecting, and enhancing industrial hygiene in 2008
FAIRFAX, VA (March 28, 2008) — The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) announced the results of its 2008 election for the AIHA Board of Directors.
The new board members will be inducted into office at AIHA’s annual business meeting on Thursday, June 5, during the annual American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHce) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 31–June 5. This meeting will also mark the beginning of the terms of Lindsay E. Booher, CIH, CSP, as president; Cathy L. Cole, CIH, CSP, as president-elect; Donald J. Hart, PhD, CIH, as past president; and Allan K. Fleeger, CIH, CSP, as treasurer. Elizabeth L. Pullen, CIH, will continue her term as secretary.
The results of the AIHA election are as follows:
- Michael T. Brandt, DrPH, CIH, PMP, was elected AIHA’s new vice president.
Brandt has served as a member of the AIHA Board of Directors since 2001. He has been a member of AIHA since 1979 and serves as technical chief of staff for operations at at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
- Cynthia A. Ostrowski, CIH, was elected AIHA’s secretary-elect. Ostrowski served as a member of the AIHA Board of Directors from 2004–2007. She has been a member of AIHA since 1989 and is an independent industrial hygiene consultant for CAO Consulting, LLC.
- Cindy A. Coe, CIH, was elected to the AIHA Board of Directors. She has been a member of AIHA since 1981 and serves as the southeastern regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
- Barbara J. Dawson, CIH, was elected to the AIHA Board of Directors. She has been a member of AIHA since 1982 and serves as the global occupational health competency leader for the DuPont Company.
- Steven E. Lacey, PhD, CIH, CSP, was elected to the AIHA Board of Directors. He has been a member of AIHA since 2003 and serves as assistant research professor for the University of Illinois at Chicago.
AIHA’s remaining board members for 2008–2009 include: Daniel H. Anna, CIH, CSP; Ellen P. Clas, MS, CIH, CSP; Kevin G. Gara, CIH; Christopher D. Jones, MS, CIH; Zandra M. Walton, CIH; and Shelley R. Wheeling-Park, MPH, CHMM, CSP, CIH.
On the same ballot, membership approved a bylaws change to allow those individuals who hold the certified industrial hygienist (CIH) certification from ABIH to join the Academy of Industrial Hygiene. These individuals will be Academy Affiliate members, recognized as diplomates of the Academy. Prior to this bylaws change, membership in the Academy of Industrial Hygiene was limited to CIHs who were also members of AIHA.
The Academy Council believes that by making Academy membership available to all CIHs it will be better able to achieve the mission to provide leadership in advancing the professional field of industrial hygiene.
Annual dues for the Academy Affiliate members are $44 per year and include the following benefits:
- Recognition as diplomates of the Academy
- The right to vote in Academy elections
- The right to serve on committees of the Academy
