AIHA Hosts Risk Management and Insurance TeleWeb

Presenter to provide an overview of the risk management and insurance profession from the health and safety program perspective

FAIRFAX, VA (July 30, 2008) — The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) will host “What Industrial Hygienists Should Know About Risk Management and Insurance,” an intermediate TeleWeb Virtual Seminar on August 19, 2008, from 2–4:30 p.m. ET.

In recent years, many industrial hygiene programs have been involved in organizational re-alignments, shifting from stand-alone units to assimilation into comprehensive environmental health and safety programs. Such shifts compelled individuals to expand their professional knowledge base to better understand the roles of their new organizational colleagues. But the trend of organizational transformation has not stopped.

A current phenomenon is the creation of comprehensive institutional risk management programs that incorporate all health and safety functions, along with other institutional loss control and insurance activities. In recognition of this trend, it is imperative that practicing industrial hygienists become familiar with the risk management and insurance profession to ensure that issues are effectively communicated within the context of this new paradigm.

This course will provide an overview of the risk management and insurance profession from the health and safety program perspective, specifically addressing:

  • How an organization’s loss exposures are identified and analyzed
  • How risk management alternatives are evaluated
  • How the most desirable option is selected
  • The implementation of selected risk management techniques
  • The monitoring of effectiveness

Featured speaker is Robert Emery, DrPH, CIH, CHP, CSP, RBP, CHMM, CPP, ARM. Emery is the assistant vice president for Safety, Health, Environment and Risk Management for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and associate professor of Occupational Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health. He has over 25 years of experience in health and safety and holds masters degrees in health physics and environmental sciences, and a doctorate in occupational health. Emery is unique in that he possesses national board certification and registration in all of the main areas of health and safety.

Attendees will be provided with tools to enable them to:

  • Understand how an organization’s universe of loss exposures are identified and analyzed
  • Understand how risk management alternatives are evaluated
  • Determine how the most desirable options are selected
  • Assist in the implementation of selected risk management techniques, and assist in the monitoring of program effectiveness.

TeleWeb Virtual Seminars deliver cutting-edge educational content live via the Internet and telephone from the convenience of an attendee’s home or office; multiple attendees can participate for the cost of a single registration. Since TeleWebs debuted in 2000, more than 19,000 individuals have used this convenient and cost-effective format to further their education and careers.
