Risk Assessment Committee: Featured Products
The Risk Assessment Committee is pleased to offer products and services related to the practice of risk assessment to AIHA members in the form of Professional Development Courses, conference technical sessions, reference manuals and texts, white papers, and symposia. These include:
- "Risk Assessment Principles for the Industrial Hygienist," by Michael Jaycock, Jeremiah Lynch, and Deborah Imel Nelson, AIHA Press, 2000. This text allows the reader to become equipped with the awareness and information needed to bring the most recent risk assessment methodologies into the daily practice of industrial hygiene. The AIHA calls this a "truly readable and relevant yet scholarly text intended for use by the industrial hygienist." This text is available for purchase online at the AIHA Marketplace.
- The AIHA Risk Assessment Symposium, sponsored by the Risk Assessment Committee and offered at the PCIHs in 2002 and 2004. The Risk Assessment Committee plans to co-sponsor this symposium with the AIHA's Exposure Assessment Strategies Committee at the 2006 PCIH.
- Our White Paper and Position Statement on Risk Assessment and Risk Management was amended and adopted by the AIHA's Board on February 1, 2002. The AIHA believes that risk assessment should be conducted with the best available scientific data. In the absence of scientific data, AIHA supports the use of health protective but reasonable default values that are selected using well-defined principles.
The Risk Assessment Committee is actively working on new Symposia, Professional Development Courses, reference materials, and related products to serve the AIHA membership.
Do you have an idea for a product or service that you would like to see the Risk Assessment Committee develop? Please contact our committee chair, Mr. Timothy W. Williams, CIH, CSP with your suggestion. Thank you!
