Stewardship and Sustainability Committee Goals and Objectives
Goal: Provide product stewardship training, communication and resource tools on:
- PS Program design and implementation
- Hazard communications
- Program assessment (audit)
- Life cycle analysis
- Strategic value
Objective #1: Interact with other organizations developing effective product stewardship programs that apply the "cradle-to-grave" approach to identifying, evaluating, and controlling product risks.
Strategy: Work with the Chemical Manufacturers Association and EPA.
Objective #2: Discuss and act on product health and safety issues.
Strategies:
- Designate specific members to track and report on identified issues.
- Respond to AIHA Board requests to address specific issues.
- Solicit papers; organize sessions; and provide session arrangers, chairs, and monitors for the AIHce.
Objective #3: Provide education and training on product health and safety issues.
Strategies:
- Develop new PDCs and keep existing PDCs up to date.
- Sponsor or develop short courses and seminars.
- Goal: Actively participate in identifying and responding to product health and safety issues.
Objective #4: Identify, evaluate, and comment on proposed legislation, regulations, standards, and guidelines affecting product health and safety.
Strategies:
- Monitor OSHA activities related to standardizing material safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Develop and recommend positions to the AIHA Board.
Objective #5: Identify, evaluate, and comment on developments in the design of warning labels and MSDS.
Strategies:
- Work with consensus organizations on the development of standardized labels.
- Provide input to the Chemical Manufacturers Association and to ANSI on MSDS formats.
