Laboratory Quality Assurance Programs
AIHA operates several highly-recognized laboratory quality assurance programs that have helped to ensure the quality of the data used in making critical worker protection decisions for over thirty years. Among its programs, AIHA runs several laboratory accreditation programs which comply with ISO/IEC 17011 in accrediting laboratories based on the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. It also administers a number of proficiency analytical testing programs and an asbestos analyst registry program.

Assistance in Finding Partners for Required Round Robin Programs
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1001 Appendix A requires that any laboratory analyzing asbestos samples for compliance determination participate in round robin testing at least once every 6 months with at two other independent laboratories. AIHA Policy 2D.6.3.2.2 requires that laboratories seeking accreditation for Air Fungal Direct Examination (Spore Trap) participate in a similar round robin slide exchange program. While AIHA does not help to organize these programs, we do allow labs to voluntarily list themselves as seeking round robin partners for either of these two requirements. The lists can be found at the links below
