SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Directly supports site needs of assigned health, safety, and/or environmental areas including identifying regulatory requirements and developing and implementing programs to ensure ongoing compliance. This may include writing procedures or regulatory interpretations, development and delivery of training to site personnel, and/or conducting environmental monitoring or coordination of waste disposal in compliance with regulatory requirements and Covidien guidelines. Responsible for obtaining information to allow the site to complete necessary regulatory reports which may include Emissions Inventory Questionnaire, SARA Tier I/II, TRI, and hazardous waste quarterly and biennial reports. Will be asked to participate in or lead site accident investigation committees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Primary HSE contact for assigned area of responsibility.
• Process knowledge regarding HSE practices (PPE, Procedures, Codes, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with HSE standards and company procedures
• Familiarize with chemical manufacturing processes
• Develop and deliver HSE training
• Assist with recordkeeping requirements for environmental permits and reporting.
• Identify potential waste reduction projects
• Continually looks for opportunities to streamline and achieve efficiencies related to regulatory compliance activities
• Participate on HSE Incident Investigations
• Ensure compliance with environmental monitoring requirements for area of responsibility

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

• Able to work with different parts of the organization effectively (i.e., Logistics, Manufacturing personnel, Process Engineers, Purchasing, Corporate HSE etc.)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Office/Plant working conditions
• Must be able to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
• Must be able to work independently but also be able to support a manufacturing environment

Requirements

Education: Bachelor Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Engineering, Health Physics or a related field, OR a four year degree in a an unrelated field with 4 years of HSE experience.

Experience: The preferred candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of professional level HSE experience in chemical manufacturing or a pharmaceutical facility.

Skills/Competencies:
• Able to maintain a balance between building responsibilities and HSE Compliance
• Able to operate independently under limited supervision
• Capable of handling multiple projects at one time
• Lead, motivate and influence others to achieve HSE objectives
• Able to analyze problems and come up with appropriate corrective actions

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
• Knowledge of environmental and safety regulatory requirements depending on area of responsibility (EPA, NEC, NPFA, NRC, MDNR, OSHA)
• Excellent oral and written skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Software applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)

Other Skills: Certifications such as CHMM, CSP, CIH or PE a plus.

Environmental Air Sampling Professional / Technician

A local industrial hygiene and environmental consulting firm located in St. Louis is seeking an environmental air sampling professional / air sampling technician.  EPA training in lead and asbestos, Missouri and / or Illinois licenses, and 2-3 years of experience preferred.  The work schedule will be dictated by the remediation and construction activities, and may include out-of-town travel.  Reliable personal transportation to and from construction sites, a valid driver’s license, adequate insurance (minimum $100,000) are required.  Mileage will be reimbursed at the current US Government rate.  Additional requirements include pre-employment drug screen, background check, and DMV check.
