Industrial Hygienist

Are you interested in working in a dynamic, growth oriented environment and being part of a successful, global company?  If so, then we would like you to consider joining our team.  PPG Industries, an $11 billion leading producer of coatings, glass, chemicals, and fiberglass is seeking talented people for an Industrial Hygienist position in Lake Charles, LA .  The successful candidate will be responsible for the administrative management of a comprehensive Industrial Hygiene program that assures compliance with applicable government regulations and Corporate policy.  The successful candidate should have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering or Industrial Hygiene (preferred), or related field, and at least three years experience in related plant activities.  The co-op activities of graduating seniors may be considered as meeting this requirement. CIH is preferred, however, he/she can work toward this future goal.  The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills and will be responsible for procedure revisions, written training programs, and general communication and correspondence to a wide audience.  The successful candidate will directly supervise all industrial hygienist technician work and interfaces with other members of the safety staff to assure comprehensive programs are in place and properly managed.  He/she will have knowledge of instrumentation and analytical methods for the sampling and analysis of workplace contaminants.  The successful candidate will function as the RSO and will be responsible for compliance with the state of La. Radioactive Material License.  The successful candidate will work closely with the local medical department personnel, Corporate Medical personnel, and Corporate IH staff to ensure PPG and regulatory requirements are met toward the goal of injury & illness-free workers.  Active involvement in medical surveillance, HEG assignment, and frequent work in a PPG-specific database will be required. He/she will also support Wellness goals.  The successful candidate will work closely with the hourly workers, focus groups, and corporate Safety Professionals to maintain an effective ergonomics program.  The successful candidate will be able to represent the interests of PPG in various settings outside the plant.  These may include CAP meetings, participation in local benchmarking groups, and providing information when litigation is involved.  The successful candidate will have good understanding of the hazard communication standard and TSCA legislation and will be responsible for ensuring these requirements are met at the plant level.  Candidates must be authorized to work permanently in the United States.  We would like to thank candidates who submit their interest for this position. Industrial Hygiene Technician - 14005 - Environmental Health and Safety

Job Description:


The Industrial Hygiene Technician works under the supervision of the Industrial Hygiene Officer. Tests, certifies, maintains and repairs biological safety cabinets, clean work stations and fume hoods. Conducts performance tests of air handling unit HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filtration systems. Conducts air quality studies and exposure assessments. Responds to hazardous material spills, while serving as a member of the institutional hazardous materials response team. Performs respirator fit-testing of institutional employees. Maintains a working knowledge of health and safety standards and guidelines, including those set by TOSHA (Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration), JC (Joint Commission), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), NSF (National Sanitation Foundation), TDEC (Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation), ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists) and NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health).
