On Thursday,
November 17, 2011, the Central Ohio AIHA will be holding our
November meeting, and the last of 2011. The November meeting is
going to be held at Barley’s Smokehouse and Brewpub located in
Grandview. This will be a free meeting and free dinner to all
members.
The topic for the November meeting:
Residential Carbon Monoxide Detector Failure Rates
Original research presented by Dr. Tim Ryan, PhD, CIH, CSP
from the Department of Social and Public Health at Ohio
University in Athens, Ohio.
Dr. Ryan tested 30 detectors in use in a community and
found that more than half failed to function properly, alarming
too early or too late. Forty percent of detectors failed to
alarm in hazardous concentrations, despite outward indications
that they were operating as intended. His research was published
in the October 2011 issue of the American Journal of Public
Health.
