Edward J. Bier Technical Achievement Award

Robert Curtis, CIH is the 2009 recipient of the Edward J. Baier Technical Achievement Award.

The Edward J. Baier Technical Achievement Award was established in 1984 in honor Edward J. Baier, AIHA’s 37th president. This award is presented by Bureau Veritas. The Edward J. Baier Technical Achievement Award is presented to the individual, company, academic institution, organization, or association that has made the most significant contribution to industrial hygiene in recent years.

This year, the award recipient is Utah's own Bob Curtis.  The Baier Award will be presented to Bob during the 2009 AIHce in Toronto, Canada, at the Annual Business Meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.   Make sure to attend and show Bob your support. 

Bob Curtis is former Director of OSHA's National Health Response Team and has been part of the Clinical Faculty, University of Utah RMCOEH, since l977. He was formerly the Director of the OSHA Salt Lake Area Office, and an IH Engineer with Stanford Research Institute (1975-1977) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (1972-1975). He has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (University of Utah) and an M.S. in Civil Engineering (Stanford University). He has been a Board Certified Industrial Hygienist since 1977. Curtis represented OSHA as its technical expert in the development of measurement procedures, control recommendations, and consensus standards for non-ionizing radiation including RF/microwave, ELF, and laser radiations.  Bob is currently a consultant in California.

Fellow Announcement

March 18th 2009: Congratulations to Jeff Throckmorton for being named a 2009 AIHA Fellow Award recipient!    

The Utah Local Section was proud to nominate Jeff for this designation.  Having over 33 years of industrial hygiene experience, Jeff has provided years of volunteer service to AIHA and the industrial hygiene profession.  Mr. Throckmorton is actively involved in the advancement of the profession, contributes articles to the Synergist, volunteers on numerous AIHA committees, and has served on the Board of both national AIHA and ABIH

Only five percent of the AIHA membership can qualify for the Fellow Award, which is given to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of industrial hygiene.  The Fellow Award has become a mark of excellence and achievement for AIHA members. 

Jeff will be honored on June 3, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the AIHCE  during the President ' s Reception.
