Lori M. Ramonas, Ph.D., Vice President, Strategic Communications, Nuvotec, Inc.
Dr. Ramonas has over 15 years experience in the areas of external relations; strategic issue management; stakeholder involvement; and science, regulatory, and public policy in private industry and government. She has served as: a science advisor for former Congressman Albert Gore Jr.; a senior advisor on health risks for the Department of Health and Human Services; a spokesperson for the U.S. chemical manufacturing industry addressing public concerns on health, safety and environmental issues following the Bhopal accident; the founding director of the Chemical Manufacturers Association's Responsible CareŽ initiative (the ESH management system for the U.S. chemical manufacturing industry) and the manager of the Responsible CareŽ National Public Advisory Panel; and, an advisor and strategist to management at the Department of Energy Richland Operations Office regarding the application of industry best practices in ESH to Hanford Site operations. She has taught risk communication principles to member companies of CMA, graduate students at Washington State University, and high school teachers throughout Washington State. Additionally, Dr. Ramonas has extensive public speaking experience and a technical background coupled with research experience in the field of chemistry. Ph.D. Chemistry/Yale University/1976.
Roger Briggs, M.P.H., C.I.H., Coordinator, Hanford Health Studies, Point of Contact for Responsible CareŽ, Richland Operations Office, U.S. Department of Energy
Mr. Briggs has over 30 years of experience in the broad area of public health. He has worked as an environmental health specialist for state and local health departments, an assistant professor of environmental health and safety at three state universities, and an industrial hygienist with three federal agencies. For the past 8 years, he has worked for the Richland Operations Office (RL) of Environment, Safety and Health. Responsibilities have included overseeing contractor industrial hygiene operations and providing technical support in environmental health and safety to Richland Operations offices and programs. Most recent assignments have included serving as RL's point of contact for the Responsible CareŽ initiative that DOE EH has embraced in a resource/information sharing MOU with the U.S. Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA). Mr. Briggs is the one of the only DOE employees to have attended CMA's training course on Management Systems Verification (MSV). In addition, Mr. Briggs is responsible for coordinating Hanford Health Studies activities with internal and external governmental and non-governmental agencies. Mr. Briggs received a masters degree in public health from the University of Minnesota in 1969 and has been a certified industrial hygienist since 1981.
