This figure illustrates the influence that foreign dust has on the protection afforded to the welder when the EH 54 procedure is used to evaluate the risk to health caused by exposure to welding fume, as compared to when a chemical analysis is performed and results are compared with individual exposure limits.
Although the data is scattered, a clear trend is discernible, with the gradient of the trendline being approximately 0.33. This shows that the EH 54 method affords greater protection to the welder by a factor of about three in the case of stainless steel welding.
