The College underwent another name change in 1974 when it became the American Occupational Medical Association (AOMA). This name was chosen to clarify that the practice of occupational medicine was not limited to the industrial site.
In 1988, AOMA and the American Academy of Occupational Medicine (AAOM) merged to form the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOM).
