Job Seekers

I have attended the AIHce conferences for many years, and it wasn’t until Oregon 2011 that I decided to see what the CareerAdvantage Development Fair was all about. Well, I must say the staff was totally accommodating to me in my search for employment opportunities. I learned up-to-date interviewing etiquette through taking the seminars and received a firsthand critique on my résumé. Someone even reviewed it after I made corrections to it after conference was over. I took part in the Speed Networking and met with Human Resources representatives in a friendly environment and received many business cards, should I decide to pursue employment with them.

The CareerAdvantage Development Fair was the highlight of the conference for me this year. I came away with confidence that I was putting forward the best attitude and responses to interview questions, along with the best résumé ever! In fact, my first interview this year resulted from replying to a job posting on the AIHce CareerAdvantage website.

Employers

Just prior to the 2011 AIHce in Portland, Oregon, we had a longtime employee within our organization retire. As is the case with many employers, we needed to get the position filled ASAP with a qualified EHS professional. I contacted AIHA CareerAdvantage since I was attending the conference, but considering it was only a few days away, I wasn’t sure what my options were. However, AIHA CareerAdvantage and Wanda Barbour couldn’t have been more accommodating. They helped me post the position on the AIHA website prior to my leaving for the event. I was able to indicate that I was going to be available at the conference to interview prospective candidates. Once I arrived at the conference, I was able to use the employers’ lounge to review résumés and search the AIHA résumé database. Also, I found attendance in the annual Speed Networking session and meeting one-on-one with job seekers invaluable for identifying potential candidates.

As a result of the CareerAdvantage Development Fair and Speed Networking, we were able to find strong candidates for consideration. In the future, should I be trying to fill an open head count, I will be contacting AIHA CareerAdvantage again to use their services.
