In October 2010, AIHA offered a 4-day Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene course, limited to 50 participants, for the first time in India.  Participants from across the region along with representatives from Indian Occupational Health and Safety Organizations have been invited to attend this new international educational initiative.  During the course, participants will gain exposure to the broad field of IH through sampling and workshop session, hands-on lab experiences, demo sessions, and problem solving exercises.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the attendee will be able to:

  • Identify industrial hygiene principles and practices.
  • Describe basic concepts of health hazard recognition, evaluation and control methods.
  • Select appropriate air sampling method for airborne contaminants.
  • Calculate the Time Weighted Average (TWA) from multiple samples.
  • Compare sample results to the appropriate Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs).

  • Day 2: Direct Reading Instrumentation, Direct Reading Instrument Laboratory, Sampling of Gases, Vapors and Particles, Principles of Calibrating Air Sampling Equipment, Air Sampling Equipment Laboratory, DRI vs. Long-Term Sampling Workshop
  • Day 3: Noise, Heat and Cold Stress, Noise and Heat and Cold Stress TLV Workshop, Noise Measurement Laboratory, Ergonomics Overview, Ergonomics Workshop, Ventilation for the Control of Airborne Hazards
  • Day 4: Introduction to IAQ, Introduction to Local Exhaust Ventilation, Ventilation Laboratory, Personal Protective Clothing, PPE Selection Workshop, Respiratory Protection, Respirator Problem Solving and Workshop, Implementing a Comprehensive IH Program
