Outline/ Agenda:

10:00 am–Noon MT:
PO 122 Nanotechnology

  • Description:
Nanotechnology is the science of manipulating matter, in different fields and specialties, on the molecular level.  It has the potential to create a vast range of useful technologies and positive quality of life improvements.  It has also lead to many questions and concerns about health and environmental impacts.  This technical session will feature current research and case studies that highlight: the current State-of-the-Science, Evaluation of Engineering and Emission Controls, Particle Generation during Recycling, Exhaust Controls, Filtration System Performance, Sampling Methods, and Mathematical Modeling for Exposures.
  • Full Presentation Information and Times  Please note:  Particle Generation during Nanocomposite Recycling, abstract #158, will be available as part of the streamed audio and virtual visual presentation, but is not available for download or print.
  • Abstracts: 156, 157, 158, 159, 160, 161

PO 128 Case Studies in Indoor Environmental Quality

  • Description:
Indoor Environmental Quality refers to the quality of the air in a building environment and the impact that environment has on workers and occupants.  Understanding potential contaminants and controlling them is key to helping prevent and/or resolve health impacts.  This technical session will feature current research and case studies that highlight: Healthy Homes and Green Buildings, Safe Registered Disinfectants and Sanitizers, Effective Sampling and Risk Communication Strategies, “ Dirty Sock Syndrome,” Large Water Spills and Guidelines for Smoke Damage Assessment.
  • Full Presentation Information and Times
Please note: Modeling and Measurements of Indoor Air Contamination from Membrane Roofing Installation, abstract #203, will not be available as part of the streamed audio, virtual visual presentation or for download or print.
  • Abstracts: 197, 199, 200, 201, 198, 202, 203, 204, 205

3:40 – 5:00 pm MT - BREAK

5:00 p.m.–7:30 pm MT
RT 237 Health Hazard and Control Banding Strategies and Applications in the Absence of OELs

  • Description:
Control banding arose in response to the exponential growth of the number of chemicals used in the workplace without OELs. Hazard banding is the first step in the control banding process and can be used in the absence of an OEL for risk assessment. This session will examine several tools for developing both aspects of this risk assessment and hazard control process. A practical hazard banding toolbox, including the Hazard Banding Matrix, selection of appropriate data for input, and examples of the implementation of the resulting hazard band exposure control limit will be presented. The approach of the Dutch social economic council will also be explored, where an instrument for the development of OELs or the selection of a good practice has been deployed. In addition, application of hazard banding to a chemical approval process in research and development will be presented. Finally, a summary of a recent NIOSH publication that examines strategies, applicability, and limitations of control banding practice, and needs for future research, evaluation, and validation will be discussed.
