The mission of the committee is:
To develop guidelines for responding to potential releases of airborne substances for use in community emergency planning.

ERPG Levels
Goals and Objectives:
Goal: Publish brief summaries and estimates of tolerable-effect thresholds, not intended as exposure recommendations, to assist in the planning for accidental, episodic chemical releases.
Objective: Review the health and safety data on the chemicals of greatest concern in the United States.
Strategies:
- Assign evaluators to review and revise toxicology summaries on chemicals of concern.
- Meet as a full committee four times a year to review summary documents and to develop estimates of tolerable exposure levels.
- Prepare emergency response guidelines for publication and distribution by the AIHA national office.
- Prepare and maintain documentation supporting the guidelines
