September 28, 2010 -Kick-off Social

 

Plan to join us on September 28, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 pm at The Club At Nevillewood for our Kick-off event!!   Plan to attend - and bring a friend - to this free event that includes appetizers, beverages, even a gift-card raffle!!  Pam Ferrante, CSP, CHMM (President of JC Safety & Environmental, Inc.) will give a 1/2-hour presentation titled:  “The Ten Most Important Safety Lessons I Know”.

Business Meeting 2010

 

The Executive Committee held their annual business meeting on Friday, June 25, 2010 at the offices of Professional Service Industries, Inc. in Greentree.   The Meeting Minutes are available - -please "click here" to open the file.

 

 

Corporate Sponsorship Drive 2010-2011 

The 2010-2011 Corporate Sponsorship drive is underway!  The benefits of a Corporate Sponsorship contribution of $150 include:

Your contribution helps to defray the operating expenses (website and membership management, scholarships, etc.) and meeting expenses of the local section.  Local section meetings allow members to remain at the forefront in a constantly changing profession through the interaction and information exchange at our local meetings.  Additionally, our meetings provide opportunities for members to earn certification maintenance points toward CIH, CSP and other professional accreditations without extensive travel or cost.

Congratulations to New Pgh. AIHA Officers! 

 

Congratulations to Bob Soule, President-Elect and Steve Stockton, Director who will both begin their term in September 2010.  Continued thanks to Frank Pokrywka, Secretary and Maureen Sammons, Treasurer who will remain in office for 2 more years. 

 

Thank you to all the candidates who offered to volunteer their valuable time to the Pittsburgh AIHA and run for local section office.

 

Science Fair Winners 

 

The Pittsburgh AIHA sponsored two awards at the 71st Pittsburgh Regional Science Fair held on March 26.  Dan Flanagan, Frank Pokrywka, Maureen Sammons and Paula Sweitzer represented the Pittsburgh AIHA as volunteer judges.  This year's winners were:

Robert Grumski from Ingomer Middle School in the North Allegheny School District with his project entitled “Is the Drinking Water Safe in Allegheny County?”

 

bullet

Sophia Lee from Carson Middle School in the North Allegheny School District with her project was entitled “Acid Rain: Algae Terminator”.

 

 

Pittsburgh AIHA Member Named as National AIHA Fellow

 

Congratulations to current Pittsburgh AIHA Director, Tom Blank, CIH, CSP of L. Robert Kimball and Associates who recently received the Fellow Award from the AIHA Board of Directors and the AIHA Awards Committee.

Only five percent of the AIHA membership can qualify for the Fellow Award, which is given to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of industrial hygiene.  Tom was presented with the award during the President’s Reception at AIHce in May 2010.

The Pittsburgh Local Section of the AIHA is a non-profit organization providing a local forum for Industrial Hygienists in Western Pennsylvania, parts of West Virginia and Ohio. The purpose of our organization is to promote the study, evaluation, and control of environmental stresses in the workplace as they impact the health and well being of our employees and the public.  The local section, by offering monthly programs and seminars, provides opportunities to increase our knowledge of industrial and environmental health through the exchange of ideas and the dissemination of information to our members.
