Safety Development Engineer Position Posting

Requirements:

Responsible for coordinating comprehensive safety & health program.

Knowledge of State and Federal OSHA General Industry Standards is required.

Basic industrial hygiene and ergonomics knowledge.

Capable of taking control of safety engineering projects, e.g., new equipment installation, and follow through to completion.



Tools/Applications:

Applying knowledge of systems design, operational procedures, hazard identification and safety compliance certification to identify and help mitigate safety risk.

Planning and administering the safety program, performing safety analysis, setting safety requirements, including location targets and goals.

Reviewing and analyzing program documentation.

Analyze work environments and design programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, radiological, and biological agents.

Inform management of any areas that may not be in compliance with State and Federal laws or employer policies.

Perform and assist with accident and incident investigations analyses.

Proposing, developing, documenting, and maintaining safety engineering databases, tools, and processes in order to analyze injury and illness trends.

Capable of preparing and submitting all state and federal required OSHA reports.

Assists in the implementation and oversight of the safety program including development of site safety policies and procedures.

Assists in coordinating training, new orientation, and safety meetings.

Assists and coordinates monitoring of all construction work for compliance with safety requirement.

The work requires the application of: (1) professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques; (2) safety related elements of the physical sciences, ergonomics, psychology and physiology; and (3) safety principles, standards, practices, and analytical techniques.


Basic Qualifications:

BS Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Industrial Engineering with an emphasis in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent degree/work experience in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics and at least 5 years of safety engineering experience.

Applicants must have practical experience in identifying and preventing safety hazards.

Must possess a strong work ethic; good interpersonal skills; demonstrate good organization; verbal and written communication skills.

Under direction of Corporate Safety Director, develops, coordinates, and consults with CHS facilities on various specialty environmental, health and safety programs (i.e. hazardous waste, blood borne pathogens, lock out tag out, permit required confined space, hazard communication, emergency management, asbestos, ergonomics, and respiratory protection, etc.). Position: University Industrial Hygienist (Chemical Hygiene Officer)

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill continues to expand with new and renovated laboratory spaces and cutting edge research. The University is seeking a talented industrial hygienist to serve as the chemical hygiene officer for the campus. This hygienist's responsibilities include reviewing laboratory safety plans, assessing laboratory and related support facility design and operation, developing and conducting health and safety training, performing hazardous material assessments and personnel exposure assessments, contributing to safety committees; and evaluating and recommending means and methods of controlling EHS risks.

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, engineering, industrial hygiene/environmental science or related discipline and at least 1 year of experience performing industrial hygiene inspections. The preferred qualifications include 5 or more years of IH experience (including laboratory health and safety responsibility) with a Masters Degree in Industrial Hygiene (Occupational Health) or related field and a working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA and Building Code requirements as they pertain to the laboratory and campus environment. IH certification by the ABIH is highly desirable. Good organizational, written, verbal and computer skills are essential.

Industrial Hygienist

ERM is seeking an energetic, self-starting Industrial Hygienist to join our consulting firm in Charlotte, NC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspects and evaluates work operations, production methods, and engineering controls t o determine potential contaminant emission sources or related health and safety hazards associated with work place conditions.
  • Conducts investigations of working conditions in places of employment for the prevention of occupational disease and industrial health and safety hazards, with specific reference to toxic substances, noise, and harmful physical agents.
  • Use air sampling instruments and collection devices.
  • Determines effectiveness of engineering control methods and makes recommendations regarding location, design, structure, operations, and maintenance of contaminant and physical agent control systems.
  • Uses ventilation testing equipment and special measuring devices for the determination of airflow rates, noise, lasers, and other physical factors in the work place.
  • Reviews plans for health and safety hazard control procedures.
  • Interprets rules and regulations.
  • Evaluates investigation findings, proposed corrective measures, and compliance with health and safety rules and standards and present information in technical reports.
  • Consults with management, industrial engineers, employee representatives, and other agencies regarding industrial health and safety problems and solutions.
  • Keeps abreast of technology and current issues through seminars and training.
  • May participate in the training of new staff members.

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

3 - 5 years’ experience in the technical practice of heath and safety This experience must include the following:

  • Designing air monitoring protocols
  • Conducting field work relative to health and safety evaluations;
  • Collecting, interpreting and reviewing exposure data relative to health significance and environmental impact,
  • Preparing reports to clients
  • Health and safety program development and implementation on a variety of subjects for clients
  • Researching health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • BS required, MS strongly preferred. May be in technical field such as Chemistry, Biology, Industrial Hygiene, Safety or other Engineering disciplines, Environmental/Public Health.
  • Interest in pursuing certifications in fields such as industrial hygiene, ergonomics, radiation, fire protection, risk management or training would be desirable.

Education:

General knowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, physiology, engineering, physics, toxicology, statistics, mathematics, and epidemiology via a bachelor degree in one of these fields: Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Environmental Health or a related field. Master of Science in one of these fields is preferred. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) desirable. Five years of industrial experience desirable. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide consultative service in the areas of industrial hygiene, safety, and occupational health for clients. This includes chemical, process, work methods, or equipment evaluations in order to prevent occurrence of occupational illnesses, diseases or injuries; evaluation and interpretation of rules/regulations (governmental or INPO); advice on compliance measures.

Develop industrial hygiene programs and compliance for the company. Interface with contractors related to industrial hygiene and industrial safety related issues.

Assist with site accident prevention activities via interface with the BST facilitators, Target Zero Team and accident investigation. Coordinate and assist clients with responses and ensuring compliance with internal and external audits in the area of industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety.

Assist in development and monitoring of industrial hygiene and safety budget activities in order to ensure that budget constraints are met.
