Local Section Interagency Meeting
The October 27th , 2005 meeting on Methamphetamine Labs gave local section
Industrial Hygienists and Public Safety representatives better insight on a
growing issue.
A combination of guest speakers from agencies and organizations with expertise
in Meth Lab problems gave the topic a broad range of attention.
1. Fred Abbot of MSA spoke to the group about the highlights of new and improved
respiratory products.
2. Our very own 2005 Local Chapter President, Arpad Kolozsvary provided a
viewing of his Time Warner News 9 in Rochester Television interview on this
topic and introduction of this AIHA special event/meeting.
3. Steve Majors from Environmental Technical Group discussed chemical hazard
discovery and lab packing, as his company has performed a number of MethLab
remediations. .
4. Herrick Teeter, CIH, and CNY Local Chapter member presented the IH’s role in
MethLab busts and the required protocols for safe operations after the initial
work by Public Safety personnel.
5. Brian Besser (in photo below) and Officer Hogan from the US Drug
Administration from the Tioga County Law Enforcement discussed their experiences
with MethLabs.
This October CNY AIHA Meeting was well attended, and a great success in
providing specific information to our local membership on the Meth Lab
remediation process. This meeting also gave local members a great opportunity to
interact with the Public Safety and Drug Prevention representatives who
resourced this meeting. Many thanks to our presenters and organizers.
