CERTIFIED INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST

Responsibilities

This position will provide leadership and technical support in the areas of: 

·         Direct industrial hygiene, safety, environmental and litigation support consulting activities;

·         Prepare proposals and bid documents in coordination with business development staff;

·         Conduct and/or oversee the completion of industrial hygiene surveys for noise, indoor air quality, mold, asbestos, lead, etc.;

·         Preparation and  review of site safety/work plans;

·         Technical report preparation and/or review;  

  • Quality assurance/quality control technical review;

  • Train and manage junior staff members;

  • Develop business leads and new EHS consulting services.

·         Position may require short-term travel throughout the United States.
 

Qualifications

  • US Citizen or permanent work status.
  • BS or MS degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health or related science field.
  • Must be certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) as a (CIH) Certified Industrial Hygienist.
  • Must be a Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) or have the ability to obtain CAC based on experience and similar certification in another state.
  • Experiences in consulting/manufacturing/industrial fields are highly desired.
  • Certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is highly desired.
  • Strong communication, staff management, and leadership abilities.

POSITION: Health & Safety Leader
LOCATION: Oswego, New York
DATE: October 15, 2007

This position is accountable for the management of the Health & Safety process at the Oswego Works.

Reporting to the Human Resource Manager, the incumbent works in a team based environment of two (2) exempt professionals, the Environmental Leader and the Health and Safety Leader. Reporting relationships will be determined based upon level of candidate skill, experience and qualifications.

The incumbent participates in the management of the Oswego Works Business Management System. This is accomplished utilizing ISO -14001 and OHSAS - 18001 management system guidelines. The Heath and Safety Leader will be expected to lead site conformance to the OHSAS -18001 requirements.

The incumbent is responsible to recognize and evaluate those situations where potential exposures may be harmful to employees and/or the environment and/or beyond legal limits and to maintain required documentation.

The incumbent investigates accidents with leaders, makes plant safety/health inspections and assists in correction of problems. He also coordinates and/or performs training of personnel in E, H & S related items. The incumbent coordinates all visits of federal, state and insurance inspectors and follows up on their recommendations. The incumbent serves as a key resource in the sustainability of a Behavior Based Safety Process and the Oswego Works Emergency Response Teams.

The incumbent is expected to represent Oswego Works in the E, H&S Corporate Network and take a lead role in supporting corporate initiatives.

External to the Company, the incumbent develops and maintains contact with federal, state and private agencies to ensure current knowledge of E, H & S regulations and practices. The incumbent is responsible to maintain knowledge of changing regulations and implement programs to ensure compliance.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline, along with a minimum of three years experience in H & S management. A demonstrated level of competence in scientific, human relations and organizational management skills is required, as is the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Current certification as a CSP or CIH is desirable, but not a prerequisite.

Travel requirements are minimal, typically less than 10 per cent. Additionally, the position is accountable for providing expertise throughout Novelis Corporation in the areas of all E, H & S.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Environmental Specialist

B.S. degree in environmental science, safety management, or other related science, plus 3-5 years of experience. NYS Asbestos Certification (Project Monitor and AST) a plus. Position will be based in Edison, NJ. Responsibilities include performance of various industrial hygiene and safety related activities, including: indoor air quality (IAQ), asbestos monitoring, mold investigation, noise monitoring, construction safety oversight and compliance auditing. Experience with environmental investigations, groundwater and soil sampling, and knowledge of NJDEP technical regulations a plus. 40-Hr OSHA HAZWOPER Training is preferred but not required. Candidate must be highly computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Excel.

Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Ability to interface with various clients and balance multiple projects is critical. Some travel is required, primarily within the NY/NJ metropolitan area.

The responsibilities of the Risk Manager include implementing, managing and coordinating programs relating to occupational safety and health, claims, and insurance.  A professional level position which requires planning, organizing, actuating and evaluating risk of loss coverage programs to protect properties, physical assets and human resources from loss. 

Typical work activities include managing a comprehensive employee occupational safety and health program along with planning and implementing programs in order to limit risk of loss to properties, physical assets and human resources.  The position will interface closely with the Human Resource Administrator and safety /security staff.

Skills necessary for this position include good knowledge of principles and practices of risk management and asset protection. Ability to interpret and evaluate statistical data. Ability to supervise & guide. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to travel between work sites and locations.  Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum qualifications for the Risk Manager are:

  1. Baccalaureate degree and three years of professional level work experience or its part-time equivalent, in developing and implementing programs for occupational safety and health or in the administration and processing of health insurance, property, casualty, fire, disability or workers compensation claims; or
  2. Seven years of professional level work experience its part-time equivalent, three years which must have been professional level work experience as outlined in A.
