About Us
The Connecticut River Valley Section of the AIHA was
founded in 1971 by a small group of industrial hygienists who felt that the
profession could benefit from the exchange of ideas between individuals in the
State.
From this small start, CRV held their first All-Day
Industrial Hygiene Conference on June 9, 1976 at the Lord Cromwell Inn. The
focus of this conference was "...to provide topical insights into the health and
safety of workers to responsible management, employees, and union-related
professionals, as well as physicians, safety specialists and industrial
hygienists." Some of the topics presented at this meeting were: "Removal -
Asbestos Ceilings", "Biological Monitoring of Hazardous Chemicals", and "Free
Silica Analysis Symposium". The section steadily grew through the 1980's and
1990's and has a current membership of more than 200 members.

What Is a Local Section?
Local section is the term used by AIHA to designate regional chapters. AIHA, the
largest occupational health and safety association in the world, has 75 local
sections. Because each region has its own special concerns, specific local
section activities may vary, but the purpose of each section remains the same:
- Protect the health and safety of workers and the
community
Increase knowledge of industrial hygiene and occupational health and safety in
a specific region
- Promote the profession and cooperate with government,
industrial, educational, and other professional bodies.
- Share a concern about the health of workers worldwide
as well as the special concerns of your regional area.
What if I Am a Student?
If you are a university student interested in industrial hygiene and are looking
for a way to get more involved in the profession and network with peers and
occupational health and safety professionals, AIHA can help. AIHA student local
sections support the special needs of students.
