Key
Responsibilities
·
This environmental, health
and safety (EHS) professional works in a team environment to support clients
in assessing and developing improved EHS programs to achieve measurably
improved EHS performance.
·
Team members work with
clients to identify EHS goals and objectives, design & establish ESH
policies and programs and implement those programs by deploying programs,
procedures, information systems, training, auditing programs, and reporting
systems.
·
Will be involved in
environmental permitting, planning. due diligence and regulatory
tracking/support.
·
May be involved in
Industrial Hygiene (IH) testing, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) or safety program
implementation at client locations.
·
Will provide regulatory
and technical assistance to clients to research current regulatory
requirements, determine facility-specific requirements, and prepare
regulatory reports, documentation, permit applications and similar
documents.
·
Will conduct EHS audits of
various types, including compliance audits, EHS Management System audits,
performance-based audits, and other audit scopes as defined by the client.
·
Will conduct EHS training
courses ranging from one hour to several days in length, depending on client
needs.
·
This position involves a
significant amount of writing, including policies, procedures, proposals,
reports and web-based documents.
·
This position will support
existing clients and solicit new clients and projects.
Basic/Required
Qualifications
·
BS degree in an
environmental field or related, or industrial health/safety
·
3 - 5 years+ of EHS
compliance experience.
·
Requires an understanding
of EHS compliance and management systems auditing, and regulatory
assistance.
·
Some experience
implementing and auditing ISO 14001 or OHSAS 18001 is preferred.
·
Must be able to work
independently with clients within their corporate culture, present
themselves as an expert professional and interact with all levels of
management and employees.
·
Our clients frequently
require both environmental and health & safety expertise, so a candidate
with experience in both areas is preferred.
·
Specialization or
certification in at least one program area (e.g. air permitting, wetlands,
safety etc.) is preferred.
·
Excellent writing and
communication skills are required.
·
Experience with auditing
and writing standard operating procedures.
·
Excellent presentation
skills required.
·
Strong knowledge of a wide
range of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations.
·
Must pass drug
test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in
accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director for Academic Safety and
Environmental Health Services, develops and implements comprehensive
industrial hygiene and laboratory safety programs on the campus and at
experimental stations, including setting standards, conducting assessments
and monitoring regulatory compliance. Provide consultative and chemical
hygiene services to other campuses, agencies and municipalities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Physical Sciences or
related discipline with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of applied professional
industrial hygiene experience or Masters degree with a minimum of 1 to 3
years of progressively responsible experience. Successful completion of
American Board of Industrial Hygiene Core Exam required. Professional
credentialing such as Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist [CAIH] or
Certified Industrial Hygienist [CIH] preferred. Thorough knowledge of
industrial hygiene practices and occupational health regulatory requirements
associated with a research university environment. Valid Driver’s License
required. Ability to pass a background and security check. Must have
supervisory experience. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability
to work in confined hazardous environments. Night and weekend hours required

$51,500-$57,900)

The Center for Continuing Studies and the Department of Allied Health
Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for an
Assistant /Associate Extension Faculty to participate in an Academic
Partnership between the Department of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) and the
Occupational Safety and Health program (OSH) in the Center for Continuing
Studies (CCS). This is an eleven month, non-tenure track renewable
appointment beginning Fall 2008.
The successful applicant will assist in the development, coordination, and
teaching of OSH and AHS courses both online and face to face. Additional
responsibilities include participation in scholarly research, student
advising and outreach activities consistent with the mission of the
University and college, and program review/planning. The purpose of this
partnership is to provide traditional as well as returning adult students
with knowledge about identifying and prioritizing environmental,
occupational safety and health hazards and problems; evaluating risks posed
by hazards/problems through analytical and/or empirical methods; developing
prevention and control strategies to eliminate or minimize the
hazards/problems and applying and validating the interventions developed.
Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree in a field of
Environmental/Occupational Safety and Health. Three years teaching in an
accredited institution of higher education with excellent teaching reviews.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated
ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Environmental/Occupational Safety and
Health or related discipline. Five years working as a professional in a
field in Environment/Occupational Safety and Health. Knowledge and
experience in teaching online and/or didactic courses in Occupational Health
and safety.
