Meeting Notes of December 4, 2006
This meeting of the Board of Directors was held at Central Maine Community College in the Culinary Arts Center.
In attendance: Don Martin, Sharon D’Orsie, Scott Knowlen, Sharon Holmes, Greg Buckley, Jean Wheat, Adela Vidal, Students, Skip Pratt
• Treasurer’s Report:
o Balance as of 10/25/06 2928.16
o Accepted
o One $96 charge for the joint DEAIHA/ASSE breakfast at the conference. Dennis should write a check to Brian Cody
o Dues notice has been sent recently
•Upcoming Election:
o Discussed who we should target as a potential officer or board member
o Skip has agreed to assuming the President’s position for another year, as the President Elect position is vacant
o We need a President Elect and one board member, as Sharon D’Orsie is rotating off the board.
o Don Martin (Past Pres) will coordinate the election
o Greg Buckley is willing to run for Pres Elect
o If anyone is interested in either running for President Elect or for a seat on the Board of Directors, contact Donald.martin@bstsolutions.com
•Volunteer Maine Website:
o If you, as a safety professional are interested in being a contact in the event of an emergency, you should get on the website and register as such.
o There is no obligation implied; if you are called you are not obligated to become involved.
• Leadership Conference:
o Happens March 2-4; we usually send the President Elect.
• Miscellaneous:
o Skip shared a memo from National about Code of Ethics enforcement. From the memo: “After careful consideration, much deliberation, and solid legal advice, the four organizations…” (ACGIH, AIH, AIHA and ABIH)…”have decided to pursue the following:
? Develop a new, enforceable Code of Ethics for all who are certified by ABIH.
? Develop a set of principles that will complement the enforceable Code of Ethics in (above bullet) for ACGIH, AIH and AIHA”
o More information on Code of Ethics enforcement can be found on the AIHA website.
o Skip also discussed results of the survey we provided information for in 2005. Results at end of meeting report.
o We have a new member: Adela Vidal, who is working with Jean Wheat at the Sappi site in Westbrook
o Maine Safety Conference will be in Augusta again this year. Jean will find out whether we will be asked to present.
• Future Meeting Dates:
o January 24 or 31: regular meeting in Portland area.
o April: New Hampshire Safety Conference. Skip will find dates and whether we will present.
o End of June: Professional Tour
o September 24-25: Maine Safety Conference
o November/December timeframe: regular meeting in Waterville, ME
o Tuesday, November 15 in Waterville Maine
o Would like to go to Keene State at some time for visit arranged by Wayne Hartz
o Details of all meetings to be announced as time draws near.
