Gulf Coast Section – American Industrial
Hygiene Association (GCS-AIHA) Scholarship Fund Purpose:
This
scholarship was established by the Gulf Coast Local Section to support the
mission of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, which is to promote,
protect, and enhance industrial hygienists and other occupational health,
safety and environmental professionals in their efforts to improve the
health and well being of workers, the community, and the environment.
Financially assisting industrial hygiene students in their career
path supports this mission. The scholarship has been established by the
GCS-AIHA to provide financial assistance to selected students majoring in
Industrial Hygiene related course work, in any of the institutions of Higher
Education identified by the GCS-AIHA Board of Directors, who have met the
criteria outlined below. This
scholarship is to support tuition, textbooks or associated fees by
undergraduate and graduate students in the pursuit of their degree.
Based on need and availability of the funds, the award fund may also
be used for travel expenses incurred by students conducting field studies or
presenting the results of their research at a professional meeting
associated with or sponsored by AIHA. Award:
Scholarships
are awarded for one semester in the fall.
The minimum scholarship amount is $1,000 awarded to the student
through their university. The
award recipient will be announced in the July GCS-AIHA meeting (usually held
on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m.).

Award recipients shall give a minimum 15 minute oral
presentation either on their thesis or dissertation topic or an industrial
hygiene related topic of interest
within a year of the announcement of the award at one of the regularly
scheduled GCS-AIHA meetings.
Eligibility:

Currently enrolled in the fall semester at the University of Texas
Health Science Center at Houston,
·
Maintains a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
·
Currently pursuing a bachelor, graduate or doctoral degree in the
industrial hygiene program or with an

Award recipient is eligible to receive the scholarship a maximum of two
