We are currently searching for a full time Industrial Hygienist (CIH) located in Ohio area/region. This position will be a work-from-home position, so location is of secondary importance. Supported by our accredited laboratory, our Industrial Hygiene Specialists are experienced Certified Industrial Hygienists with a broad knowledge and vast experience in a wide variety of industries and operations.
JOB OBJECTIVE Provides Industrial Hygiene (IH) risk assessment and loss control IH consultative service (anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control) to large and complex clients to assist in the control of occupational disease (OD) exposures and to meet the needs of larger, more complex sold service customers as defined through service instructions and local contacts, including complex and technically demanding exposures and controls.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assess customers operations to determine scope and type of business, processes, materials used and products produced/services performed. Anticipate and recognize actual and potential OD exposures even in complex situations. Determines adequacy of OD hazard controls in operations/processes through interview, onsite observation, loss/incident report review, audits of existing loss control programs, analysis of policy or procedures and through evaluation (sampling, modeling or calculations) and comparison to existing applicable standards or by developing standards where none exist. Determines the appropriate intervention(s) based on the clients hazards and loss control problems, and recommends them to the account's management. "Sells" the account's management on implementing the intervention using sales methods. Effective in setting and/or implementing loss reduction actions and measuring the impact on profitability or reduction in OD loss potential. Able to use technology to provide state-of-the-art risk assessment and control methods to clients. Assists clients on implementation of interventions. Able to manage and provide service to all including the most complex and demanding work in territory, set priorities and servicing strategies, and develop risk improvement methodologies. Act as a strategic partner with RCS Consultants in territory, regional ESIS, Underwriting and Claims operations. Under direction of Practice Leader - Industrial Hygiene, works with those partners in development of business plans and goals, providing IH services to anticipate, recognize/identify, evaluate and control of OD exposures clients facilities with in the assigned territory. Acts as a technical resource on industrial hygiene and occupational disease exposures for RCS Consultants, Claims personnel (depends on level of expertise); underwriters and clients. Participates in new and renewal business presentations when requested by RCS Consultants, RCS Mangers as assigned by ESIS Liaisons, RCS Account Managers or Practice Leader - Industrial Hygiene. Position requires approximately 50% travel within the US, with the potential for some, limited international travel.
REQUIREMENTS DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Baccalaureate degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, safety and health related sciences, engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent. Masters degree (or in process) in these fields preferred. Must have an applicable professional certification [i.e. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) [preferred]. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation an added plus. Minimum of seven years work experience desirable in IH (10 years preferred). The ideal candidate will have consulting experience as a CIH, and prior insurance experience, as a plus. Must possess a thorough knowledge of loss control principles and techniques. Excellent working knowledge of IH and OD exposures required. Ability to create and sustain relationships with RCS Consultants, RCS Managers, clients and business partners (Underwriters, claims, ESIS, etc.). Must have a good working knowledge relating to a wide variety of industrial operations and processes and the potential they present for OD exposures. Extensive and commanding knowledge of applicable IH standards, guidelines and codes relating to loss control for various hazards, industries, substances and operations. Good knowledge of insurance coverages and classifications, WC OD Claims handling and an understanding of underwriting requirements are a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Training ability and experience necessary. Must have a commanding ability to anticipate, recognize and identify OD hazards, evaluate exposures and controls in place or needed, and develop a strategy to sell top management on risk improvement. Proficiency with most recent versions of Windows, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.
