Position Description: Safety Specialist

This position supports a large federal organization in assessing and enhancing their Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Programs at research laboratories and/or hospitals.  The individual will be involved in activities such as risk assessments, guidance and policy development, OSH training, facility technical support, etc. The individual will be involved in kick-off meetings, conducting onsite evaluation activities, and writing reports. The individual will develop OSH compliance protocols, policies, and guidance. They may also develop and provide OSH training to facility personnel, and auditors.  In addition, the individual will provide broader agency level OSH program support related to OSH compliance improvement and risk mitigation, training, policy/guidance development, etc.

Requirements of Position

* 5+ years of relevant professional experience (particularly with laboratories or hospitals) 

* In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, and; other federal, state, local, and industry OSH regulations and standards

* Demonstrated ability to assist organizations in OSH compliance and risk management

* Experienced in OSH compliance programs in laboratories and/or in hospitals

* Experience in training laboratory professionals

* Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
