Manager of Environmental Health & Safety

description:
To provide environment, health & safety support for Company operations;
primarily supports the Gaithersburg site Research Development.
1. Develops implements, revises and/or maintains environment, health & safety
programs to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and
company standards and values.
2. Performs accident management activities, including injury management, investigations and associated record keeping. Identifies, implements and tracks corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Maintains injury records in accordance with government regulations and corporate practices. Manages the workers' compensation process, if applicable.
3. Performs hazard assessments and other EHS evaluations, including employee
monitoring. Surveys, compiles and analyzes data relating to risks. Assesses
risk and makes recommendations to control hazards.
4. Manages life safety, fire and property risk management programs. Works with
corporate staff, site personnel and insurers to manage risks.
5. Secures, revises and/or maintains applicable environmental and hazardous
materials permits.
6. Chairs Site Safety Committee thereby fostering employee involvement in EHS
activities. Identifies and addresses site EHS issues and employee concerns via
the Committee.
7. Develops, implements and maintains employee training programs for topics
related to health, safety and the environment.
8. Responsible for developing appropriate emergency plans and response
capabilities. Available to respond to emergencies during off-hours (evenings,
weekends, holidays)
9. Stays abreast of new government regulations as they are promulgated, as well
as new developments in industry (best practices).
10. Builds relationships with key departments to foster support for EHS programs
.
Requirements:
BS or MS in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences or equivalent.
10+ years of experience.
4 to 6
yrs of EHS experiences in the biotech/pharma Research and Development with
emphasis on the biological safety.
Highly motivated EHS individual with excellent problem solving skills and
ability to create sustainable processes.
Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate technical information
related to the EHS including biological research laboratories.
Customer driven with proven effectiveness at group/team leadership and project
management.
Proficiency in the use of personal computer and application software in a
networked environment.
Professional certification such as CSP, CIH, RBP, or CBSP desirable. Experience
and skills to support R&D operations of biotech manufacturing preferable.
