I am a grad student at GWU … I am about to begin my second year of graduate school in Public Health at GWU and ideally am looking for a part time entry level job as an industrial hygienist or environmental consultant where I can get some on-the-job training in a variety of skills such as site assessments, hazard monitoring and communication, implementation of health and safety programs, pollution prevention, compliance monitoring, environmental sampling, and other training that will give me a good start in the field of environmental health.

1991-2005: Freelance copyediting contracts in which I followed strict guidelines for editing and proofreading journal articles, manuals, catalogs, and trade association publications. 

 

1985-1991: Litigation paralegal in CA, VA and DC.  Demonstrated strong skills in legal research, drafting correspondence, digesting depositions and drafting and editing legal documents; assisted in filing court documents; performed medical record acquisition and analysis in product liability cases related to defense of vaccine manufacturers and other medical products.

 

1991-Current: Gaps in paid employment reflect time at home raising my two children, where I received invaluable training in management skills.

 

Community Service:

 

Fall 2008-current: Completed Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) in City of Alexandria, Department of Emergency Management.  As a certified member of CERT I may be called by the City of Alexandria to assist in emergencies. In February 2009 I completed an additional workshop on Disaster Damage Assessment.

 

Fall 2008-Current: Participation in ISCOPES, a community service program, at GW University.  Our group of 8 graduate students is creating and implementing a wellness program at Community of Hope homeless shelter in Washington, DC.

 

2004-2005: Taught ESL (English as a second language) to immigrants in the local community through church and county programs in Alexandria, VA.
