Earlier this month, EPA launched ChemView, a new Web tool intended to improve access to chemical-specific regulatory information developed by EPA and data submitted under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Users can search available TSCA information on a given chemical, including EPA assessments, hazard characterizations, and information on safer chemical ingredients, as well as information reported under the Chemical Data Reporting Rule, including manufacturing, processing, use, and release data. The portal also links to EPA’s Toxics Release Inventory, which tracks the management of certain toxic chemicals that may pose a threat to human health and the environment.
ChemView allows users to search by chemical name or CAS number, use, hazard effect, or regulatory action, and to compare chemicals by use and by health or environmental effects. In addition, ChemView gives users the capability to create tailored views of information on individual chemicals or to compare multiple chemicals sorted by use, hazard effect, and so on.
ChemView currently contains information on more than 1,500 chemicals. EPA plans to add chemicals, functionality, and links to ChemView in the coming months. View and search ChemView on EPA’s website.
