
The SDS and Label Authoring Registry program recognizes chemical hazard communication and environmental health professionals who specialize in authoring safety data sheets (SDS) and labels. This registry program was developed through a partnership with the Society for Chemical Hazard Communication (SCHC) to assure the recognition of competent professionals. To gain the Registered Professional: SDS and Label Author credential, an individual must meet the established qualifications and must demonstrate competency in the skills and knowledge defined by the program’s Body of Knowledge. This AIHA Registry Program is the first EHS Specialty Credential that provides recognition for individuals who have expertise in this area.

Preparing to Take the Assessment
The SDS and Label Authoring Registry Assessment is designed to determine an individual's proficiency in classification and labeling under the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) international standard. The skills and knowledge needed for the Registry assessment can be gained from formal education, in-house or professional training and on-the-job experience.

The assessment is composed of two parts:

You are allowed up to two hours to complete each Part of the assessment. To become Registered, a canidate much achive a passing score for Part 1 and for each section of Part 2. The passing score is set at 75% for Part 1 and each section of Part 2.

We will review your qualification information and supporting documentation and contact you if any information is missing or clarification is required. The application review process generally is completed within two weeks of receipt of all required information and requested clarifications.
Qualifications
At least 20 qualification points must be documented in your application. Points are gained through a combination of the following qualifications and are cumulative.
SDS/Label Authoring Experience
Documentation Required: Proof of experience.
A minimum of:
one (1) year of SDS (safety data sheet) and label authoring is required to apply for the registry.
40% of time spent on SDS / Label authoring or other hazard communication related activities during the year is required for each year of experience claimed.
Proof of Experience must include your responsibilities related to preparing SDSs and labels and the period over which the activities have been performed.
Employee - submit a letter of verification from employer stating your job functions includes authoring SDS.
Consultants - submit a list of customers for whom SDS have been authored or if clients are confidential, a detailed description of the types of companies and types of products.

Continuing Education
Documentation Required: A copy of your course completion confirmation(s) (e.g., Certificate of Completion), applicable page(s) from a Conference Program with proof of attendance, copy of attendance/sign-in sheet, or equivalent documentation.
