“Fungal Meningitis in Compounding Facilities: Prevention and Control” will be presented January 28


FALLS CHURCH, Va. (January 17, 2013) —The American Industrial Hygiene Association® (AIHA) will host the “Fungal Meningitis in Compounding Facilities: Prevention and Control” webinar on January 28. The webinar is presented by Donald Weekes, CIH, CSP; Andrew Streifel; and Nathaniel Milton, PhD, RPh.

This webinar will review the necessary health and safety protective measures needed in a pharmaceutical compounding facility to prevent employee illness and to prevent contamination of the product. The presenters will also discuss the associated adverse health effects of contaminated injectable medicine distributed by compounding facilities and the potential cause of contamination.

Attendees of the webinar will learn about the health and safety measures, including engineering controls and personal protective equipment that would be used in a compounding facility, in addition to the necessary quality control methods used in the pharmaceutical industry to prevent fungal contamination of injectable drugs. The webinar will focus on the interactions of health and safety personnel with quality control staff and on engineering controls such as ventilation and isolation. The presenters will also provide an outline of the inspection methods to be followed by IH consultants when conducting a site visit at a compounding facility.
