Annual conference to focus on host country with new Canadian Issues track
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (May 14, 2013) — More than 5,000 professionals from the occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) industry will convene in Montreal in a few days to discuss the latest trends in industrial hygiene scientific issues and innovations. The 74th annual American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHce) will take place at the Montreal Convention Center between Saturday, May 18, and Thursday, May 23.
This year’s conference will debut a Canadian Issues Educational Track, with sessions focusing on Canadian-based OEHS issues and research. In addition, a special session on Tuesday, May 21, will feature The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Labor, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. Minister Raitt will join David Michaels, MPH, PhD, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, U.S. Department of Labor, for a moderated “Meet the Press” style discussion where they will cover a broad range of current topics and issues affecting OEHS professionals today.
In addition to the educational sessions, AIHce 2013 will include hundreds of companies presenting exhibits focusing on the need to integrate sound science with creativity and innovation to protect worker safety. The exhibit hall will be open Monday through Wednesday and feature a cyber café, daily prize drawings and technical and student posters.

Clandestine Drug Lab Special Exhibit: Clandestine Laboratory Working Group will display a mock clandestine drug lab that focuses on hazards associated with the production of methamphetamine and indoor marijuana grow operations.
Fun Run: The American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF) will host the 27th annual “Fun Run” on Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 am at the Science Center at the Old Port. The 5k run or 2k walk is sponsored by Hygiene Tech. Pre-registration fee is $35 while registration at AIHce 2013 is $40. Students who attend AIHce may register for free. All “Fun Run” proceeds benefit the AIHF Scholarship Program.
New Educational Books: Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase new educational materials including the 2013 ERPG/WEEL Handbook, 2013 ERPG Update Set, Important Instrumentation and Methods for the Detection of Chemicals and Odor Thresholds for Chemicals with Established Occupational Health Standards, 2nd edition.
Media Registration: Members of the OEHS industry-related press and local media are invited to partake in AIHce 2013 programming on Tuesday, May 21. From 12 pm to 1:30 pm, pre-registered media representatives may pick up their complimentary boxed lunches at the Media Registration kiosk located in Viger Hall at the convention center.
Press Reception: On Tuesday evening, the AIHce Press Reception will be held at Le Centre Sheraton Hotel located at 1201 Rene Levesque Ouest. The reception will begin at 5 pm and will include industry highlights from AIHA’s Government Affairs Director, Aaron K. Trippler.
