Description 

The most effective way to prevent occupational noise-induced hearing loss is through effective engineering controls. With advanced education and training, it is feasible for IHs to develop noise control solutions. This PDC will discuss how to establish noise control priorities, identify and select products for retrofitting equipment, work with design engineers, and predict the impact new equipment will have on the existing noise levels.

**Please note: power strips will not be provided at each attendee's seat; however, charging stations for laptops will be provided in each course room. 

Prerequisites 

Participants should be familiar with the fundamentals of noise and basic terminology.

Value Added 

Several spreadsheet programs, references for noise control, and an electronic copy of AIHA's The Noise Manual, 5th Edition will be provided to participants.

Your Instructor

Dennis Driscoll, P.E., FAIHA
Associates in Acoustics, Inc., Lakewood, CO

Dennis Driscoll has a BA and MS degree from North Carolina State University. Since 1980, his specialties in acoustics include measurement of equipment noise levels and employee noise exposures, the design of engineering controls, and environmental surveys. From 1980 to 1988, he managed Amoco and BP Corporation's hearing conservation program and has been an acoustical consultant to industry since 1988.

Driscoll is a registered Professional Engineer and a Board-Certified Noise Control Engineer. He is a Past President of the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA), a Fellow Member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), and past Chair of the AIHA Noise Committee. Driscoll has over 20 technical publications, including 8 book chapters. Finally, he serves as one of the editors and participating authors of The Noise Manual, 5th and 6th Editions, by AIHA.

Over the course of his career, he has conducted over 800 noise control surveys; taught more than 350 noise control engineering, hearing conservation, and community noise seminars; given more than 60 conference presentations; and been to 31 countries providing noise control and hearing loss prevention services.​​
