In this episode, Mark talks with Barb Epstien, MPH, CIH, FAIHA, about the dangers that construction workers face every day and what can we do to keep them safe and healthy.
Barb Epstien is one of two industrial hygienists on the Safety Services team of the Associated General Contractors’ (AGC) Oregon-Columbia chapter. In addition to air and noise monitoring exposure assessments and training, she provides general industrial hygiene technical support and outreach for some 600 AGC chapter members, to help reduce construction jobsite health hazard risks. She has 30+ years’ experience in occupational and environmental health that has encompassed consulting, training, and regulatory compliance in a variety of industry sectors.
A long-time active member of AIHA, Barb currently serves on the Construction Committee and also the Women in IH Committee. She was a member of the project teams that recently published Focus Four for Health and Focus on Construction Health: COVID-19. She was also lead author of the chapter on IH issues in construction for The Occupational Environment: Its Evaluation, Control, and Management.
