SD AIHA Meeting2400 Admiral Baker Road, San Diego

Wednesday, February 28, 2018
from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM PST

What is it?

Six times a year the AIHA board will provide an opportunity to expand or refresh your knowledge on a given topic related to the safety industry. The time spent attending these events are considered contact hours for your advanced certifications.  This first event will be a presentation on safety culture.

Why should I attend?

The term "safety culture" is being used with greater frequency to describe the holistic approach to workplace safety.  But what does safety culture mean?  Is it determined by leadership or employees on the factory floor?  How do you change safety culture?  Our speaker is a leader in the field of safety culture change and will help clarify what safety culture is and provide some insight on effective measures to change a negative safety culture into a positive one.

Who is speaking?

Steven I. Simon, Ph.D., is an organizational change consultant with a doctorate in psychology from Harvard University.  Dr. Simon is the originator of the concept of safety culture. In 1983, he became the first person to use the term safety culture as an approach to improving safety in the workplace. Now, safety culture has grown to become a worldwide movement. Over the past 33 years, he and his team have refined his culture change methodologies through hands-on consulting partnerships with top tier global corporations who, using these methods, have successfully transformed their safety cultures and become world class safety performers. A frequent speaker at International and company safety conferences and a prolific writer, he co-authored the four-book Grassroots Safety Leadership series, a comprehensive guide for implementing organization-wide safety culture change.
