Your Support Makes a Difference

Keeping workers healthy and safe makes a positive impact in our communities and across the world.

The OEHS profession requires a pipeline of highly trained and skilled professionals to meet the needs of a global economy. The American Industrial Hygiene Foundation’s sole purpose is to provide scholarships to the best and the brightest to ensure this critical need is met.

Make a gift to AIHF in support of the next generation of passionate individuals determined to protect worker health.

How to Contribute

AIHF Individual Donation

When you choose to make an Individual Donation, your generous gift will be applied wherever it’s needed most.

Simply select AIHF Individual Donation under Fund when you visit our donation page.

Give a Recurring Gift

Set up a recurring gift and know that your charitable giving is in place for the year. Your donation is automatically charged based on your frequency of choice, and if your situation changes for any reason, you can always change or cancel your gift with a simple phone call. It’s doing good on autopilot.

Simply select the Fund you wish to donate to on our online form and select Quarterly or Semi-Annual under Frequency.

Contribute to a Specific Fund

You can also choose to donate to a specific fund, scholarship, or endowment. These donations are considered “restricted” as they can only be applied directly to the fund of your choice.

Visit us here for a list of active funds you can contribute to including Endowed Scholarships, Grants and Other Scholarships, and Active AIHA Local Section and Volunteer Group Scholarships.

Alternate Ways of Giving

If you would like to make a difference, there are plenty of ways to do so.

To donate via one of the alternate ways outlined below, please contact [email protected] to learn more about how your gift can go further to help the Foundation.

Establish a Scholarship

There are two types of scholarships you can set up.

Endowed: A $25k minimum needs to be collected before the scholarship can be awarded. This scholarship will be handed out indefinitely each year. All donated funds to the scholarship will always remain intact and invested. Funds for the scholarship are awarded from the allocated income earned on the principal investment. The individual/group who started the scholarship fund will determine eligibility criteria.

Pass-thru Scholarship: A minimum $1k needs to be collected before the scholarship can be awarded. The individual/group who started the scholarship fund will determine the eligibility criteria.

Honor a Peer or Loved One

Dedicate your donation to honor a loved one or colleague. For example, you may want to honor a colleague to recognize a milestone such as retirement. Or you can dedicate your gift to memorialize someone who has passed on.

Matching Gifts – Double Your Impact

Matching gifts are a great way to increase the impact of your donation. If your company has a matching gift program, they will match employee donations to eligible nonprofits like AIHF. Some companies even match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses. Depending on the organization, some will even double, triple, or quadruple your personal contribution.

Matching your donation is easy to do. Check with your company's human resource department to see if they have a program. Most companies will provide you with a short form for you to fill out and send to us with your donation. We will do the rest. It's that easy!

Gifts of Securities (Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds)

Giving a gift of publicly traded stocks that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash.

Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

The Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) process provides individuals with a mechanism for transferring their annual Required Minimum Distributions (RMD’s) directly to charitable organizations.

The effect is to exclude the distributions from their taxable income, while simultaneously supporting the charities of their choice. This method of distribution is an attractive option for individuals who either don’t want or need the extra taxable income from their IRA’s required minimum distribution.

Making a distribution is an easy process. Since you cannot make a distribution directly to a charity, your administrator must transfer the money directly to the charity. Simply contact your plan administrator and tell them you would like to make a charitable donation from your IRA. Typically, they will supply you with a distribution form for you to fill out and return. At the end of the year, the administrator will provide you with a Form 1099-R so you can report it on your taxes. The distribution will go on your Form 1040 tax return, where you will report the distribution as a non-taxed QCD.

You should consult your financial planner or tax adviser to determine the exact tax advantages of any gift you are considering.

Legacy Giving

Plan now for a future gift to the Foundation by including a provision in your will or other estate plans. Here are the most common ways that you can make a lasting gift to AIHF:

Residual Bequest: A percentage of the remainder of your estate after other specific legacies have been fulfilled.

Specific Bequest: A specific dollar amount; stated fraction of your estate.

Contingent Bequest: A gift that is originally intended for other beneficiaries but, in the event of their prior passing, is redirected as a charitable donation.
