Background

The SAP, housed under the AIHA Guideline Foundation, is responsible for ensuring a systematic and ongoing effort to identify significant trends, issues, and developments for national and international consensus standards that can impact the future of the OEHS profession. The request for AIHA's involvement in relevant consensus standards begins with feedback from the AIHA volunteer groups on consensus standards impacting the volunteer group's work that should be prioritized for AIHA tracking and/or appointment of a representative to the standards developing organization. The SAP has reviewed feedback from AIHA volunteer groups and determined which standards and therefore which organizations warrant an official AIHA representative. The SAP estimated the relevance of standards from the above-listed organizations as high and recommended that AIHA appoint a representative to each.

Commitment & Accountability

As an AIHA representative, you will be expected to commit to a three-year term and shall:

  • Participate in the scheduled meetings of the consensus standard body/group;
  • Support the interests of AIHA during the development and implementation of standards including the disclosure of AIHA representation;
  • Avoid conflict of interests during the representation;
  • Consult with the SAP, relevant AIHA Volunteer Groups, and the AGF Board regarding possible problems and the general AIHA position on the subject of the standard;
  • Report annually to AIHA regarding the results of your activities (the reports are directed to SAP);
  • Promptly communicate to the SAP any development or direction within the body/group that indicates a significant change in direction, policy, or any overall aspects that affect AIHA;
  • Submit budget support requests to AIHA as needed for the following:
    • Annual membership fees to the standards organization
    • Travel expenses for meetings of the standards organization (not to exceed two trips per year)

(Please be aware that submission of a budget support request does not guarantee that the items requested will be funded.)

AIHA will appoint one (1) representative and one (1) alternate per standard-setting body.

Eligibility

Applicants must possess the following eligibility requirements:

  • Current AIHA membership in good standing;
  • Currently practicing OEHS professional familiar with the topics addressed by those standards organizations to which appointment is sought.

Preferable, but not mandatory:

  • Prior experience serving on standards developing bodies/groups, especially those to which appointment is sought;
  • The CIH certification and/or an applicable graduate degree.
