Big Data, A.I. & Sensor Technologies Vision Statements

  1. OEHS professionals are leveraging cutting-edge sensor technologies, A.I. tools, and data management functions to inform risk assessment and management decisions.
  2. OEHS professionals understand and possess competencies in applying sensor technologies and big data analytics to provide integrated profiles of hazards and exposures.
  3. OEHS professionals use software platforms that apply standardized data criteria and software tools to facilitate the transfer, analysis, and aggregation of data.
  4. OEHS professionals adhere to the responsible and ethical use of sensor technologies, A.I. tools, and data software to protect data privacy and avoid negative outcomes, such as bias, discrimination, plagiarism, and false or misleading results.

  • 2020 IH/OEHS Data Standardization Survey Report analyzes the AIHA/NIOSH Big Data Task Force study. The purpose of this study was to determine current industrial hygiene practices related to air and noise sampling among OEHS professionals and their organizations.
  • AIHA Supplemental Air & Noise Sampling for IH/OEHS Data Standardization Survey Results showcase the findings from the AIHA/NIOSH collaboration to gather input on the standardization of IH/OEHS data collection and analysis. The AIHA/NIOSH Big Data Task Force created a survey focused on the data elements that should be collected in relation to air and noise sampling. The goal of this survey was to get feedback on a list of data elements that represent the minimum, essential information needed for accurate reporting of air and noise sampling results and for potential, future data aggregation

Frameworks

Frameworks are written by appointed members and volunteers who worked collaboratively to develop the following guides, which outline the knowledge and skills a competent person should possess and be able to demonstrate in a specific topic or specialty.

  • Technical Framework: Big Data explains how the IH/OEHS professional could be analyzing and managing data sets consisting of structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data. This work enables conscientious decisions on how to protect worker health best and predict future exposures.

  • Cleaning Out Your Data Closet covers how to take your data analysis to the next level - whether you are just starting to clean your data sets, focusing on creating metrics and goals for monthly safety meetings, or turning your attention to aggregating data sets for better project planning.
  • An Introduction to Big Data and Big Data Analytics addresses the question: "what is big data and how can it help occupational and environmental health and safety professionals?"
