OSHA Proposes Rule for Beryllium

OSHA is seeking public comment on a proposal to modify its rule on beryllium standards for construction and shipyards sectors. Areas covered by the rulemaking include abrasive blasting in construction and shipyards, and welding in shipyards. The general industry standard portion of the beryllium rule would not be impacted by this newest action.

The move comes in response to feedback from Members of Congress and representatives of those sectors that sufficient time was not allowed to comment upon the original proposal. The comment period is open for 60 days, beginning on June 27, 2017, when the proposal was formally issued in the Federal Register.
