The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine Inc. (HJF) is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to support the Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio, TX.  HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NAMRU-SA.


  1. Conduct indoor air quality assessments using both personal and room monitoring devices.
  2. Develop, organize, and lead field project designs and daily/final report data.
  3. Travel to field sites to assist with sampling and procurement.
  4. Assess and interpret field and model data.
  5. Assist with IRB approval process.
  6. Collaborate with engineering, safety and other personnel to develop control measures such as change in work procedures, ventilation systems, material substitution, and recommends the use of personal protective equipment where hazardous exposures are discovered.
  7. Prepare technical reports on survey findings and recommend control measures in accordance with established local and federal guidelines.
  8. Participate in key meetings w/ sponsors and other team members.
  9. Ensure samples and necessary medical monitoring are obtained, evaluated and communicated appropriately.
  10. Interpret and assure compliance with applicable government regulations and standards pertaining to occupational safety and health.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Experience collecting data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques and procedures. Hands-on experience conducting field sampling and indoor air quality assessments. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to troubleshoot and work independently. Ability to guide and direct junior staff. Ability to prepare and present written and oral reports, manuscripts and proposals. Must maintain detailed and accurate records.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:   Master’s Degree in Public Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or equivalent. Ph.D. is preferred.

Minimum Experience:   4 to 6 years’ experience.

Physical Capabilities:   Ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration:  Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) for the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (5 years preferred)

Work Environment:  Office/laboratory/field environment
