MEDIA ALERT: AIHA Welcomes OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standard to Protect Healthcare Workers from Occupational Exposure to COVID-19

What: AIHA is pleased to see U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issue its emergency temporary standard (ETS) on occupational exposure to COVID-19 for healthcare and healthcare support service workers. We strongly urge the White House and Department of Labor to issue an ETS, followed by a permanent standard for other industries as soon as possible. While hopeful progress has been made on vaccination and infection rates, we are not yet done with this pandemic and need to remain vigilant and protective of our workers and communities.

Why: The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued an emergency temporary standard to protect healthcare workers from contracting coronavirus. The standard focuses on healthcare workers most likely to have contact with someone infected with the virus. OSHA announced the new standard alongside new general industry guidance, both of which are aligned with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance
