Membership Types

​Membership categories in AIHA are based on education and work experience in industrial hygiene and occupational and environmental health and safety.


New members are assigned a membership category based on the information provided in their application. Members can request an upgrade at any time when criteria are met.

Individual Membership

Have a baccalaureate degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, or other approved discipline. A minimum of three years experience.​ Spend a majority of time in industrial hygiene or occupational and environmental health and safety activities.
 
Experience can substitute education on the basis of two years of qualifying experience for one year of undergraduate education. Full-time graduate study in one of the disciplines listed above qualifies on an equivalent time basis for any portion of the required experience.

Full members may vote on Association-related issues, serve on committees, and be elected to the Board of Directors.​
Have an associate degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, or other approved discipline.​ Spend a majority of time in industrial hygiene or occupational and environmental health and safety activities.​

Experience can substitute education on the basis of two years of qualifying experience for one year of undergraduate education.

Associate members may vote on Association-related issues and serve on committees, but may not be elected to the Board of Directors.
 
Employed in an allied profession or have interest in or support the industrial hygiene profession or other related professions.

Affiliate member may not vote on Association-related issues nor be elected to the Board of Directors, but may serve on committees.
Individuals who reside in and are citizens of a country defined by the World Bank as a low-income, lower-middle income, or upper-middle income economy, practicing occupational and environmental health and safety.

International Affiliate member 
may not vote on Association-related issues nor be elected to the Board of Directors, but may serve on committees.

Young Professional​
Individuals who are employed in IH/OEHS profession and are 30 years of age or younger and are required to provide their date of birth.

Young Professional members receive the same benefits as an Associate Member, may vote on Association-related issues and serve on committees, but may not be elected to the Board of Directors.

Individuals enrolled at the college undergraduate or graduate level taking at least one-half the credit hours required for full-time status. Submission of a statement from the individual's faculty advisor confirming enrollment status is required.
 
Student members may not vote on Association-related activities nor be elected to the Board of Directors, but may serve on committees.
 
Retired ($107)​

Reserved for Full or Associate members in good standing upon retirement.​ Retirement is defined as paid active practice less then ten percent (10%) of the time.

Retired member may not vote on Association-related activities nor be elected to the Board of Directors, but may serve on committees.

 

Organiz​ational Membership

Organizational Membership in AIHA is the ideal way for your organization to receive a constant stream of AIHA services throughout the year at the lowest possible prices.​ 

An Organizational member may not vote on Association-related activities nor be elected to the Board of Directors however, one individual from the organization may serve on committees.​
