OSHA to Reestablish Federal Advisory Council on OHS

The U.S. Department of Labor seeks nominations for candidates to be considered for appointment to the newly reestablished Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health, OSHA announced today in a press release. The process of reestablishing FACOSH began earlier this month when Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh reauthorized the council’s two-year charter. According to OSHA, FACOSH is intended to advise the Labor secretary on how to reduce the number of injuries and illnesses in the federal workforce. Members of the council also recommend ways to encourage federal departments and agencies to establish and maintain effective occupational safety and health programs.

FACOSH comprises 16 members: eight who represent federal departments and agencies, and eight from labor organizations representing federal employees. OSHA invites interested individuals to submit nominations for all 16 vacancies and anticipates it will appoint members to fill the council by December. Instructions for submitting nominations will be published in the Federal Register on Oct. 22.
