The AIHA Fellows Grand Challenge Focus Group

The leadership of the AIHA Fellows Grand Challenge invites you to participate in one of two focus groups.

Thursday, November 4 at 3:00 p.m. -4:30 p.m. Eastern (2:00 p.m. Central / 1:00 p.m. Mountain / 12:00 p.m. Pacific) and/or

Wednesday, November 10 at 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern (2:30 p.m. Central / 1:30 p.m. Mountain / 12:30 p.m. Pacific)

Grand challenges are aspirational, big, important, and compelling initiatives geared towards solving critical world needs, with the expectation of progress in 5-10 years in solving the need. Grand challenges are defined, measurable outcome(s), which stem from interdisciplinary collaboration, significant innovations, and long-term sustained commitments. We ask that all participants register for the focus group(s) no later than Wednesday, November 3.

AIHA Named Awards and Fellows Selection Committee

The selection of individuals for AIHA Named Awards and/or Fellow designation is performed by the Awards and Fellows Selection Committee. The committee includes six AIHA Full, Early Career, Emeritus, or International members in good standing, and will be chaired by the current AIHA Past President, Lindsay Cook, CIH, CSP, FAIHA. In addition, the AIHA CEO and AIHA President participate in the final discussions by the committee to ensure objectivity and fairness. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 12, 2021.

Future Leaders Institute 2022

Future Leaders Institute (FLI) focuses on strengthening the leadership skills of young Industrial Hygiene and OEHS professionals. The program is designed for those with 3-15 years of applied work experience. Current AIHA members or members of an IOHA affiliated organization with 3-15 years of IH/OEHS or related experience are encouraged to apply to this program and the applications will be reviewed by a selection panel.

FLI Selection Committee Applications deadline is Monday, November 8, 2021 (AIHA Full Members Only)

Applications to the 2022 FLI Program deadline is Sunday, November 21, 2021

The Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (JOEH) Seeks Special Topic Issue: Case Studies in COVID Control

Did you conduct a study to evaluate the effectiveness of controls during the COVID pandemic? The JOEH is interested in publishing case studies (short reports, under 3000 words) that describe investigations you performed to help set up controls to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Case studies that would be of interest to our readers include investigations that examined methods to quickly assess ventilation performance, aerosol transport studies in workspaces, flow studies around plexiglass barriers in the workplace, and effectiveness of local HEPA filtration units in shared spaces. The deadline to submit a manuscript is Monday, November 15, 2021

AIHA Accepting Fellows Nominations

Nominations for AIHA Fellows are now open! To be named an AIHA Fellow, one must be a member in good standing, have 15 years of continuous Full Membership, and must have made recognized contributions to industrial hygiene or related disciplines. IAC/AIHA Emerging Economy Micro-Grants Program

The International Affairs Committee’s Emerging Economy Micro-Grants Program has been established to increase understanding and build capacity for occupational hygiene in developing economies around the world. Project proposals will be reviewed by the IAC Micro-grants Subcommittee, weighed against established criteria, and priority ranked.

The sub-committee will weigh available funds budgeted in the current fiscal year against those projects that show the most promise in achieving their stated goals. Final recommendations will be prepared and presented by the CEO to the AIHA Board of Directors for ultimate approval. Click here for the emerging economy project fund application form. AIHA Named Awards Nominations

The AIHA Named Awards and Honors recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments and contributions of occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) professionals of all career stages, who have demonstrated a commitment to preserving, advancing, and ensuring occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) in the workplace and communities around the world. The deadline to submit is Friday, January 15, 2022.

What is the Goal of the Defining the Science Advisory Group?

Formed in 2021, the mission of this initiative is to develop and maintain a national OEHS research agenda based on ideas submitted by you, the practitioner. The advancement of occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) protection depends on cutting-edge research, training, and practical application—elements of a self-improving, evolving system. FLI students also receive training in strategic decision making, integration of EHS and IH into key business priorities, and increasing their scope of influence and contributions as OEHS professionals. Now Accepting Scholarship Applications: American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF)

Over the past 30 years, the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF) has awarded more than 680 scholarships totaling nearly $2 million to students dedicated to studying industrial hygiene and/or occupational and environmental health safety. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

The Call for Scholarship Applications is now available! Applicants have until February 1, 2022, to submit their applications. Please visit the following site to see eligibility requirements. Students who are not enrolled in any of the applicable programs/schools are still eligible to apply. To qualify, a school administrator must complete a separate application justifying why their program/students should be considered for an AIHF scholarship.
