Infrastructure, Sustainability, and OEHS

Mark Ames for SynergistNOW

Infrastructure, sustainability, and OEHS: these are important topics, and if you’re an AIHA member, you stand at the confluence of all three. Construction links all these concepts, but how often do proposals to improve our nation’s infrastructure focus on construction workers? These proposals grab headlines with the number of jobs they will create, but how often do they include the additional resources that businesses and government programs will need to protect worker health and safety as the volume of construction work increases?

AIHA Applauds U.S. House Passage of the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act

This bill is particularly important considering that rates of workplace violence against health care and social service workers have risen during the COVID-19 pandemic. The bipartisan legislation is supported by health care and social service professionals as well as unions that represent them.

The Synergist

For most of the past year, occupational and environmental health and safety professionals have been responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. At some point, however, pandemic operations will demobilize. How, then, will OEHS professionals lead their workplaces to a new, post-pandemic "normal?"

As workplaces across the country navigate how to safely reopen and operate during the ongoing pandemic, new information from CDC, OSHA, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can help inform these efforts. Here, SynergistNOW highlights recent developments from these agencies.
